The European Central banks got it wrong this week. They should have lowered interest rates by at least 0.25%. Not because it would make a great deal of difference, but because, with the risks still skewed towards deflation, a cut would have helped psychologically to highlight that the ECB will not permit Japanese-style debt deflation to take hold.
